The Rules

  1. Eligibility: All films submitted must have been completed after January 1, 1999, We welcome films from around the world, and submissions may be in any language, but must be accompanied by English subtitles.

  2. Categories: We accept films in the following categories: feature films, short films, documentary films, animation, experimental films, and student films. Filmmakers may submit their work in multiple categories, but separate submission fees will apply. 

  3. Submission Format: Submissions may be made through the festival's online platform or through other accepted online platforms. We accept digital screeners in high-quality formats such as .mp4, .mov, or .avi. DVDs or Blu-ray discs are not accepted for submission.

  4. Submission Fees: Filmmakers must pay a submission fee for each submission. Fees are non-refundable and must be paid in the currency specified on the festival's online submission platform.

  5. Deadlines: The festival has multiple submission deadlines, with earlier submissions receiving lower fees. The final submission deadline is six weeks prior to the festival's opening date.

  6. Selection Process: The festival's selection committee will review all submissions and select films for inclusion in the festival's program. The selection committee's decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

  7. Notification: Filmmakers will be notified of the selection committee's decision via email and must confirm their virtual attendance and participation/performance within one week of notification.

  8. Screening Format: Selected films must be provided in a high-quality digital format for screening. Filmmakers must also provide a trailer, promotional materials, and any necessary technical specifications.

  9. Rights and Permissions: Filmmakers must hold all necessary rights and permissions for their films, including music and other copyrighted material. By submitting a film to Filmtage Der Nationen, filmmakers grant the festival the right to screen the film at the festival and use excerpts from the film for promotional purposes.
